Only one article out of many, not to mention the YouTube videos on the subject, making the rounds this week. In brief: Disneyland's newest attraction opened not long ago. There were some crowds, but they suddenly diminished. There were complaints on social media that the personally-made lightsabers malfunctioned before leaving the park, and word that Disney had deliberately upped the price of just about everything in anticipation of this opening. One video that looked at a different article mentioned that it costs somewhere around $610 per person to have a day at Disney. The attraction has only one working ride, the E-ticket Millennium Falcon ride; the lead ride isn't open yet so some people may be biding their time until all the rides are open.
Another reason might be that the prices have been jacked and are too high for most people contemplating a vacation at the most expensive place on earth. $610 is just the base price and doesn't take souvenirs, meals, and fun activities like making a light saber ($200) into account. Another speculation is that franchise fatigue is playing a part after the disappointing Solo movie. Another problem is that Disney blocked out the opening weeks to annual pass holders, most of whom live in southern California and can visit at any time, leaving the park and this attraction open for out-of-state visitors.
None of that explains the relative emptiness of the entire park. Now, maybe this week that could be blamed on the three recent earthquakes that hit southern California, but that doesn't account for last week. This phenomenon only seems to have hit California's Disneyland, which is the only one so far to have opened its Galaxy's Edge attraction.
