We didn't get to see this in the theater. But, hubby beloved enabler saw that it was out on shelves and mentioned it to me when we did a WallyWorld run recently. So I asked for it. We got it home and watched it. And I like this one much, much better than Singer's run at it... which, quite frankly, made Jean seem like she'd gone off the rails from a deep seated mental issue rather than possession by an alien entity. Granted, Singer was going the whole "more based in reality" thing, so there is that. I like Singer's original trilogy. But I also have no problem with the "First Class" timeline either (and, that is because the actors do justice to their roles). The "FC" timeline manages to stick close to the original storylines from the comics and the original animated series without making every thing look cringing and cheesy. Personally think the "FC" timeline could simply be folded into the MCU and just not worry about retconning anything. Just don't use the original group of mutants. One Easter egg that I caught during the movie. The train scene where Lensherr, Xavier, Storm, Cyclops, Beast and Jean were captured and being transported. A shoulder patch on the soldiers identified them as being from the Mutant Containment Unit. So they had a big ole MCU on their shoulder.

Lol! I hear that the movie isn't too well-liked by critics. Checking: Rotten Tomatoes has it at 23% critics, 64% audience. Metacritic, whose whole scoring thing I just don't get, has it at 43 for critics (a yellow, so mixed or average reviews) and a 5.1 audience, also mixed or average.
Critics aren't getting much right these days.

I tend to ignore the critics. The vast majority of them are not fans, nor do they follow (or even care to know) the storylines, backstory and so forth that most fans use to fill in the li'l gaps that are sometimes left in the movie.
Some times its like asking a militant vegan to review a steak house where its meat to infinity and the only vegan options are the fries, baked potato and a few options on the salad bar. Think how few stars that would get!

I think critics were originally supposed to review how good a movie is for the sake of the viewing public - no one has infinite bucks so we need to be careful of what we spend those bucks on - but they've gone all Freshman year novel analysis instead.
