More than a little gobsmacked at the moment, to say the least.

Totally blindsided. This puts a lot into perspective by hindsight. He didn't badmouth other races when he was interviewed, he was very positive and upbeat while still being proud of his ancestry. I think he was looking toward his legacy by the time he hit the mainstream radar. BP came out in 2018, so two years after his diagnosis. Whatever the reason for his demeanor, he came across as a good and noble human being. He'll be missed in this crazy post-phase-four universe. RIP, and sympathies to his family. He died too young.

He was introduced in to the MCU in Civil War (2016?) and neither of those was his first rodeo. His IMDB listing has projects as far back as 2003.
The silver lining of this is that colon cancer is going to be getting time on the video newsfeeds and pixels on web articles for a small while.

The Quartering has already done one video explaining about colon cancer and when a person needs to start checks, and that some people need to start those checks earlier than others. He's also explained how to check for testicular cancer in the same video. Might as well hit all the spots in one fell swoop.

What I really don't like are the screams for Disney to "Never Recast the Role!". People are ignoring the fact that, Black Panther was a job title. As T'Challa said to (I think) Natalie Romanov, "it is a mantle passed down from warrior to warrior."
They can do Black Panther 2 without T'Challa if they go for a plot that happened between the Snaps while T'Challa and Shuri were gone. I've heard/read possible plots would bring in Prince Namor and his kingdom of Atlantis. Some throw away lines in Endgame and (I think) Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. have possibly hinted at that.
And, no, I don't think we're going to find another actor with the dignity and gravitas Boseman gifted us with.

Too many actors jump on this week's bandwagon to give us any sort of gravitas whatsoever. You can't be dignified if you're chasing chimeras. I think Boseman, with his diagnosis, saw beyond all that petty stupidity with a clarity healthy people sometimes just don't have. Given his situation and his real-life problems, he truly fit the role. I wonder if Disney knew about his condition. An employer is usually informed when an employee needs to miss work for therapy sessions. If ao, then planning for a Black Panther 2 would have taken his possible unavailability into account, which explains some of the earlier rumors that the younger sister would take up the mantle. At the time it looked like 'Whammanz Power' talking, but maybe it was a nod toward the possibility that Boseman wouldn't be around.
ETA: Another thing that makes me think Disney/Marvel knew is that there were no leaks about how Boseman was a primadona on-set for missing work, etc. When the rumor mill is silent, it's usually the studio that shuts it down.

Actually, Shuri (and I mis spelled it originally ...my bad!) taking on the mantle of Black Panther is Marvel canon. But, I don't think she ascended the throne as well. But still, all the screaming and pleaded to not recast T'Challa is idiocy. We can only hope that, if/when, the actor chosen is able to do the heavy lifting required.
I didn't hear anyone screaming about recasting Xavier, Lensherr, Sabertooth, Mystique, McCoy, either of the Summers boys (Scott and "Havok"), Jean Grey, Storm, Nightcrawler, Emma Frost. Pyro. Toad. (Arch)Angel. Quicksilver. And poor Jubilee (three actresses, one for each movie 20th Century did).

I've heard the plea not to re-cast but I can't remember which roles. It seems only to happen when the original actor dies while still holding that place. By this time, it could just be part of the ritual of mourning in Hollywood to make that call.

Doesn't matter if the actor is still with us or not. Besides, in the Star Trek franchise, no one screamed (at least as far as I know) about the role of McCoy being recast... because DeForest Kelly was long gone by the time they did the "Kevin" timeline (at least, I think that's what they're calling the new Trek movies).

Kelvin. Might as well be Kevin so we can imagine it married to some Karen timeline for another franchise.
DeForest Kelly was old. One expects him to die. Plus, Star Trek had been dormant for a while at that point. Chadwick Boseman was young and, since no one knew he was sick, expected to re-shoulder the BP mantle in a current franchise. When the internet was floating the idea of Shuri taking over, well before Boseman's death, people took sides - 'Yay Whammenz!' and, 'Why tokenize the character?' A third, very small group kept saying, 'But, it's canon!' When things become political, canon doesn't much matter.
Maybe it's whether the franchise is current or dormant, or whether it has achieved some elevated status. Do you remember when Michael Keaton was first announced as the new Batman? Not only did people react unfavorably to 'Mr. Mom' attempting a more serious role, but there were people, IIRC led by Adam West, to have West reprise his role from the 1960s series. Didn't work, and Keaton did a great job as Batman, which makes me step back from all this nonsense about What's-His-Name from Twilight taking up the role. He's an actor. His job is to become someone/something different. He'll do fine unless he's hopelessly miscast for other reasons. He has the looks, let's see what he can do. Playing against type isn't playing against strengths.
Lol! /rant.
