...where a simple visit to a terminal they Mayfield can download... Oh, dear. Copy editor.
The timing of this highly impactful decision was questionable in the eyes of some people... That whole 'Pascal threw a tantrum and left because he couldn't show his face' thing, I'll bet. Another plot hole (that I prefer to retcon to my own satisfaction) is, how did the machine recognize his face? My solution, not canon, is, the machine only scans to see if you're prohibited, not who you are. Another topic is, he was raised by what appears to be a radical sect that adds more rules than the usual Mandalorian creed. He's already seen Bo-Katan and her crew remove their helmets once the battle was over with, and they had a teensy argument about which is 'The Way', so here he is, maybe, coming to question the Creed in which he grew up. And, yes, Bill Burr's character's ribbing, which held a lot of truth, might have had something to do with his thought processes.
The first season was peppered with grilling Din Djarin about not removing his helmet. The Armorer asks him a few times, that is, in a few episodes, if he's ever shown his face to a living being. At one point he has two other Children of the Watch guys standing right behind him as he answers, which made me think it's an intimidation thing. For a 'normie' like me who didn't have the time or money to follow the EU, all I knew about Mandalorians was that we never saw Boba Fett's face in the OT. I read and watched a lot of reviews of the series by more informed folks talking about how Bo-Katan and others did remove their helmets in the cartoons and wondering about this 'new' development. Season 2, where Bo-Katan and her crew all remove their helmets (foreshadowed by a non-Mandalorian wearing Boba Fett's armor and removing his helmet in s2e1) and their dialogue about which of them really followed 'The Way', raised questions for us 'normies' to ponder. It was a relief when he did remove his helmet voluntarily in s2e7 and s2e8 because that showed some growth and questioning that we had all been doing.
