There was no need, at that time, for Yoda to acknowledge that he knew Artoo. In the beginning, it might have "blown his cover" as a "crazy old being" and, later, doubt that any conversation along that line would have come up.

Yeah, retconning. Just admit the Doyle perspective of, Lucas wanted the 'droids in the prequels so they're in the prequels, which are newer than the OT.
The book has five authors. It took five people to come up with that. Five. Whatever happened to writing a simple book like an author, not a member of a scientific team?
