Video Captures What It Was Like Seeing STAR WARS in 1977It seems to have stung some in the Star Trek fandom that it was Star Wars that made it so that we could have the original movies (in the original timeline... no Kelvin yet!) followed by TNG, DS9, Voyager and, eventually, Enterprise.

Lol! I had one of those iron-on transfers. The only shirt I had that wasn't patterned was a red Hang Ten shirt I found at the Goodwill. My mom and my friend's mom both said Lucas should be paying us for advertising. Loved seeing all those transfers in the video! I resisted seeing it. I thought it was one of those stupid fad movies, the type that what we call 'virtue signalers' today, would watch and brag about. My friend and her husband saw it first, then saw it again, then again, so I finally caved and took the first-born to see it. He wasn't quite three. Then we went again. And again. And again. I had to give up stuff to pay for these movie forays. Not just money, but my evenings' relaxation, too. Even into June and July the lines were around the theater. We stood by a trash can that looked a lot like a thin R2D2. The son wore my jacket - we lived near the beach so nights were chilly, even in the summer - and would get on the ground under it and pretend he was a Jawa. He'd waffle around on the ground and make weird Jawa noises. It was funny having to explain that to other people in the lines. The OT was magic. The prequels didn't quite live up to them, though understanding the foundation of the Rebel Alliance and their world was a good thing. The sequels - meh. And, movies before Star Wars - like some people said, they were pretty compartmentalized. Movies for teens. Movies for adults. Movies for kids, usually stupid movies like Herbie does this or that. I'd forgotten about Saturday Night Fever. It's dated. These other movies were fun, but none brought generations together. Star Wars did.
Editing: flipped a bracket.

I'm wondering it I can actually locate the poem that I wrote after seeing it.
And, just remember how long it was in theaters. As long as lines were there, at least locally, it played. Even after some of the reels went to the discount theaters, it was still playing in first run places. And, yeah, as hubby and I were dating at the time, quite a few of our Friday dates were basically Long John Silvers and Star Wars next county over.

It was in theaters forever. You could almost guarantee that you could see it any time you wanted, as long as you wanted to see it after noon.
