Luke Skywalker's Step-Parents Are BackActually would not have had to have a face to face. Luke may not actually know Kenobi, but he knows of him. Kinda like one knows of the stereotypical "weird neighbor down the road" who everyone talks about but could tell you nothing beyond the rumors and conspiracy theories they've heard growing up.

Yeah, and doesn't he seem a little eager to go and see if the message is for 'Old Ben'? Like, 'I want a close-up look at this guy'.
Step-parents? He never called them Mom and Dad, he always called them 'Uncle Owen' and 'Aunt Beru'. I guess 'step-parent' is accurate, but he never called them that.

That was probably because he lives at the ass end of Tattooine on a moisture farm. He's a teenager, with his own transport (betting he built that and kept it running himself). He's bored since his ole buddy Biggs Darklighter is no longer there to run through Beggar's Canyon in their T-16, shooting at womp rats.
Because "step-parent" is not accurate. Owen and Beru were his legal guardians.

While writers tend to be excruciatingly correct on some things, they're very bad at it on others. I would bet these writers are using 'step-parents' as shorthand for guardians because that just sounds like they're no relation to him, or maybe they think their readers wouldn't understand. We would, since reading a SW article probably means we're already fans and know who Owen and Beru are. Long way of saying that some writers think their readers are morons.
