Makes sense that he'd have some contact with the rising rebel alliance since Princess Leia knew to contact him for help.

He's probably had contact with them since they first began back on Coruscant at the end of the Clone Wars.... right before Palpatine declared himself Emperor of the new Galactic Empire.
Padme (Luke & Leia's bio-mom), Bail Organa (Leia's adoptive father) and Mon Mothma were all founding members of what later became known as the Rebel Alliance. And, Mon Mothma was the President (or whatever title they used for the highest rank of leadership) of the Rebel Alliance by the time A New Hope rolled around.
Was talking to youngest spawn the other day about The Mandolorian and how it has made me remember how much I loved Star Wars and that I've fallen back in love with it (which means while I will probably never watch the third trilogy, I am in the process of trying to find forgiveness for that hot mess -- and not in a good way -- of a trilogy).

Relegate it to the pocket universe of your mind where other poorly-done movies go to languish in forgottenness. That Luke wasn't the one we knew, he was the product of a different dimension. Etc.
