Link. The Poetic Eddas are the sacred texts of Norse mythology. They detail the adventures and deeds of the Gods. This is the inspiration for Thor and other divine Thor characters such as Loki, Odin, Sif, Heimdal, etc. The comics keep part of the lore but also add their own to the mix, expanding on the deeds of the Norse pantheon and, occasionally, slightly changing the mythology. If Odin behaves in the Marvelverse in the same way he behaves in the Eddas, expect him to show up in disguise at some point. One interesting sidenote for Thor: in the section titled, 'THRYMSKVITHA', Thor and Loki dress up as women to get Mjolnir back from the giants. Thor the Transvestite - who knew?
