folks in the path of Ida, be safe. Grab the Mae Wests, inflate the dingy if you need and keep your powder dry. From what I've seen, she's ripped LA and MS a new one coming ashore and, downgraded and "weakened" she can still bit and gut y'all.
I have a blood draw in the morning (not looking forward to it at all). And anxiety is up because the last one was a tad sideways so the "inner panic Chihuahua" is already whimpering.

Yeah, Ida making landfall in such a low-lying area will make its effects worse, that's for sure.
I have a bone density test on Friday. Also need to get labs done, so some blood done and the ever-present cup and ladies' room. Ugh. One place I really hate to go is the VA. First it was the parking - not enough of it for what amounts to a small city. Then Covid, and you get to run a gauntlet of stations that repeat each other, so I'll be asked that checklist at least twice and have to tell them where I'm going in the megaplex and why at least another two times. Temp taken, hands sanitized (twice), and the way they've chopped the building up, I'll also need the red-vest guide to show me places I once knew how to reach.

Blood draw did not get done. Had an actual panic attack and couldn't leave the house. So, we actually did an end run around the Inner Panic Chihuahua and went the next morning. And the orders (which were supposed to have been faxed, at the very least, the previous morning) were never faxed. And the receptionist and the lab looked for them.

I went early so I could grab some lunch after the fasting labs. The gatekeeper outside the hospital said the canteen was closed due to the uptick in cases. Went to Hardee's, sat in the parking lot for an hour, then went back for the 1 pm appointment. Lady at the appointment told me the canteen isn't closed, not even for non-employees. The canteen would have been cheaper, and most likely healthier.
Bone density test doesn't involve needles and a sample of bone the way the second-born thought it would. Just X-rays of the load-bearing areas - lower back and each hip joint. Results will be posted sooner or later. It's the government. They're always sooooooo prompt.

Yeah, bone density testing is a piece of cake for me. The medication the doctor gave me to bring up my bone density, I think I'd rather have just been stabbed in the guts with a lightsabre. It couldn't have burned much worse that the one pill a month regimen I was on. And, there was absolutely no warning from the doctor or the pharmacy about how sick the medication would make me. Or how it was going to mess me up for life. Took that stuff for about five years, starting in '04 I think. There are still issues that I haven't been able to deal with that came with that.
Unfortunately, my last bone density test was in 2018, I think. Actually hadn't been to primary care doc since The WorldWide Dumpster Fire began.

These days, 'going to the doctor' means having a webcam or video-capable phone handy.
Haven't heard back on that test. It's the VA, they're here to help... in due time (<--channel Exorcist voice here). When I probed the doctor (via email) about getting the Covid shot, I had to play twenty questions because of course I did. I have a vaguely unusual allergy so I wanted to be absolutely certain that my throat wouldn't close up after the first jab. I have half a suspicion that, since the government is pushing it and paying for it, their doctors and nurses don't always look at the individual patient. Finally did get the jab, but I had to overtly remind them about that allergy before they stopped merely pushing the company line.

I think in the next few days you might be getting some weather from whatever will be left of Nicolas. At first, it looked like we might be getting some of that, but he shifted East far enough that not even outer bands are supposed to get near us. Closest -- I think -- would be just south of Huntsville which is a pretty clean miss even for Texas.

*checking weather map* Yeah, some days from now according to the radar. Alabama's getting some weather. Oy! Our current panic is dense fog that'll burn off by 9 (writing this at 8).
