Karen Traviss
Takes place very shortly after the battle of Geonosis. News of the Grand Army of the Republic hasn't trickled down yet. Especially to a backwater planet hiding a rather nasty secret putting the Clonetroopers in danger.
Can't say anything about it yet, because I haven't finished it.

My search says it's a nearly-300-page novel. Awaiting report.

What's really, really bad here is that I haven't picked that book up again since I put it down shortly after that post. That speaks rather ill of the book. Usually, if I like a book it says in my hands until I finish it.

Same here, though not as much recently because my eyes just like to go out of focus for close work. I have something called, I think, Coronal Dystrophy where layers of the cornea fill up with fluid occasionally. Makes for not-so-much-fun reading. It's like there's something obscuring vision without actually obscuring it. www.cornealdystrophyfoundation.org/what-is-corneal-dystrophyYeah, if you don't want to go back to a book that reflects on the book, the subject matter, or your interest in the subject. For voluntary fiction, it definitely speaks about the book.
